For Outstanding Volunteer Achievement On Behalf of People Diagnosed with Cancer & Their Family Members, 2007 Recipient:

The Kassel Family

The Cancer Wellness Center honors the Kassel Family as this year’s recipient of the David F. Cella, Ph.D. Award for Outstanding Volunteer Achievement. Barbara Kassel Brotman came to the Center as a participant and volunteer. Coinciding with the dedication of the Center as the Barbara Kassel Brotman House, Ted Kassel served as a member of the Board of Directors, including Chairman. In 1992, his wife Estelle Kassel, continued to serve the Center as a Board member, becoming the first Cancer Wellness Center Board Member Emeritus in 2006. Barbara’s daughter, Emily Brotman, rallied Highland Park HS students to name the Center as the recipient of the students’ annual fundraiser in 2002 resulting in a $76,000 gift. She continues to solicit raffle prizes for the Annual Benefit. Barbara’s sister, Amy Coan, is a long time Benefit Committee Member and has recently stepped up as a regular office volunteer. Barbara’s nephew, Zach Coan, has followed in the family tradition of serving the Center as an office volunteer. The Kassel Family’s continued dedication to the Center demonstrates Dr. Cella’s vision of volunteer leadership.
