The Cancer Wellness Center’s lecture and workshop topics provide a wide array of educational and experiential opportunities. We present new topics each quarter to help you and your loved ones become well informed as you navigate a cancer diagnosis. Research has found that actually seeking information increases an individual’s sense of control, improves the ability to make decisions, reduces anxiety and makes communication with healthcare providers easier.
Registration is required for all lectures/workshops. To register and learn more, select a program below.
Living with cancer can create so many stresses, which can in turn compromise immune functioning. In order to address both the physical and emotional components of distress, the Cancer Wellness Center offers evidence-based classes and individual wellness services that have been found to produce a physiological relaxation response.
Participants are able to attend group classes for mind, body and health, which include many disciplines such as yoga and meditation, as well as individual wellness appointments to help manage stress, emotional well-being and the side effects and symptoms of cancer.

Research demonstrates that outdoor exercise, such as hiking, offers health and well-being benefits. Join us at Ryerson Woods Forest Preserve, 21950 North Riverwoods Road, Riverwoods for a nature meditation followed by a two mile hike. Meet outside the Brushwood Center entrance by 10:30 – promptness is important. Brushwood parking lot and Center can be found on the forest preserve map.http://www.lcfpd.org/assets/1/7/media_pub_24323.pd...
Please wear comfortable hiking or running shoes, bring a water bottle and dress for the weather. The hiking terrain will not be paved and we may encounter irregular surface paths – all part of the beauty and joy of the hike! The Ryerson hiking trail offers the opportunity to return to the Brushwood Center parking lot at various points, if you would prefer to shorten your hike. Hike will be cancelled in the event of rain.
