A cancer diagnosis can bring an out-of-control feeling—for patients, caregivers and the entire support network. The role of the Cancer Wellness Center is to help ground participants, channeling a sense of calm. To center people when things may feel unbalanced. To provide a frame of reference for reconciling one’s identity living with cancer.
Bereavement counseling is also available for people who have lost a loved one to cancer.
In the Cancer Wellness Center’s personalized programs, participants meet one-on-one with a counselor for a limited number of sessions to learn tips for successfully navigating a cancer diagnosis, techniques for managing stress and strategies for coping with the emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis. The Center’s oncology dietician provides nutrition recommendations, tailored to the unique needs of the individual, that cover a broad range of topics including how best to treat side effects; optimizing nutrient rich food choices; risks versus benefits of dietary supplements; and weight management. Individual appointments are available for those who are currently in treatment or are within two years post-treatment.
