Stress Management through Mind/Body Awareness and Somatic Movement

An event every week that begins at 4:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until Thursday, December 7, 2023
Our emotional and physical wellbeing are intricately connected. Not only do our minds affect our bodies, but our bodies can also be used in positive healing approaches throughout our cancer journeys. You’ll learn to use your Body and Mind together in open, caring, powerful ways to improve your emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.
Through experimentation and play we will explore the connections between your body and mind, as well as the emotions and feelings you experience that can shift so rapidly. You’ll learn practical BodyMind healing approaches that are designed to be used throughout your day, including gentle movement experiments, body awareness techniques, breathing, meditation, embodiment, the principles of aikido, mindfulness, as well as many other somatic movement & education skills.
Participants will have the option to participate in self-reporting surveys, run in conjunction with Dr. John Lothes, M.A. LPA, Ed.D. of the UNCW College of Health and Applied Human Science that will look into the impact that Rich and this program have on those affected by cancer. This is aimed at helping with the continued development and research into the Somatic approaches that have been supportive to many at the Cancer Wellness Center and other places Rich shares his work.
Participants will be asked to complete an OPTIONAL pre and post assessment on the first and last day of class. Plan to arrive 15 minutes early on October 12.
