Dominique James, MS, LCPC
Clinical Associate
It is our sense of self that allows us to overcome the various challenges that life leaves at our doorstep. Experience generally informs us of how we can address these moments with confidence and grace. How about the moments when it’s a bit more challenging or even seems impossible to find who we once were and how to proceed? Cancer can alter your paths to joy and meaning. There is an immediacy that it demands of you, but does this mean that every aspect of you needs to be sacrificed during treatment and survivorship? My counseling practice aims to explore thoughts like these so that we can find new means of self-compassion and appreciation. I will encourage you to examine this version of self against this new and ever-shifting backdrop. We will work together to explore the aspects of your life that feel sturdy while acknowledging and investigating uncertainty within your environment and self.
My approach emphasizes radical acceptance and empathy. I will work hard to understand and acknowledge your challenges while providing non-generalized feedback. There are numerous diagnoses of cancer, but your experience is yours and I want to be there to support you through it. If we can examine life as a series of moments, we create opportunities for liberation and intention as we navigate through them. One at a time.
