Elyssa Siegel, CCLS
Child Life Specialist
In households where there is a diagnosis of cancer, there can be overwhelming emotions and information. I am passionate about helping children and families navigate the challenges and uncertainties of cancer care. It is my role as a child life specialist to assist families as they navigate their cancer experience. I work with children of all ages by facilitating activities targeted at decreasing anxiety, developing coping strategies, providing a sense of control, and fostering resiliency in both children and their families.
I believe in the power of play. With my expertise in child development and medical play, children will participate in therapeutic activities to help express their feelings and cope with difficult situations. They learn and process by playing. Children of all ages benefit from emotional expression and having a place and space to talk about their worries and wonders.
My work is based on family-centered care. I am here to support parents and grandparents by providing guidance with the difficult conversations. I meet children where they are at, both developmentally and emotionally. I pride myself on forming an authentic bond to promote trust with both children and their families.
