Gabrielle Wolk, PsyD
Clinical Psychologist
People often seek therapy because of distress and uncertainty during major shifts in their lives. My approach as a therapist is to support my clients through these transitions by helping them mourn the losses and honor the lessons of the previous chapter of life, while also assisting them in learning to acknowledge and embrace the gains and opportunities in the new chapter. When uncertain about how to move forward in your life, this is a beneficial time to seek therapy; it is a time when you know you want to make a change, but you may not be sure how to go about it. As a therapist, I sit alongside my clients during this uncertain time and support them in removing challenges or patterns that no longer serve them or are getting in the way of their healing. I also assist them in incorporating resources into their life that enhance their ability to move forward.
I have been told by clients that I am warm and easy to talk with, and that I ask questions which help them build insight and think about things differently. Clients that seem to get the most out of our work together are not seeking my direct advice or answers and are not looking for me to enter our sessions with an agenda. Rather, I work collaboratively with my clients. I believe it is important to make clear from the beginning that though I have a doctorate level of training and experience working with a wide range of clinical populations, I do not consider myself an expert in your life. Instead, I consider you the expert – the one who understands best how you will heal. I am here to support you in discovering what that means for you.
